SNOW: “I’m asking people to stop their nonsense right now. These are adults jumping out windows.” That’s the message from Boston Mayor Martin Walsh after recent record snowfall prompted some residents to share videos online of themselves jumping from windows into large piles of snow. February saw more snowfall than any other month in the city’s history, and forecasts point to this being the snowiest winter ever. [Boston Globe]
PARADE: At least 16 people died aboard a parade float after an accident involving an electrical shock in Haiti on Feb. 17. Video appeared to show the incident was caused by a power line coming in contact with a man atop the float. Port-au-Prince streets were lined at the time with revelers celebrating Mardi Gras. [CNN]
BASEBALL: Chicago-based Jackie Robinson West baseball team was stripped of its Little League World Series title on Feb. 11. Little League Baseball officials say the team violated rules prohibiting the use of players outside a certain geographical area. The team reportedly used a falsified boundary map and worked with nearby Little League districts to essentially create an all-star team. [ESPN]
DRONES: After years of delays, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed rules to allow commercial drone use. Right now, in general, using drones, which are also called quadcopters, for any kind of money-making venture is illegal. Among other requirements, the proposed rules would require commercial pilots to pass a written exam and fly aircraft only within eyesight. The proposal is expected to become law in 2016. ICE: A New Jersey drunk-driving crash reportedly turned into a bizarre attempted cover-up. Police say Bryan Byers hit a guardrail after running a stop sign Feb. 14. He then called a friend who brought 5-gallon buckets of water to pour on the road to give the impression that ice caused the accident. An officer on patrol spotted the men, and a half-ton of salt was used to make the road safe again. Both men were arrested. [Associated Press]
