Lancer Football Ready for Conference Play

Heading into the first week of conference play this weekend, the Grace College football team remains unbeaten on the season.

The squad has flown under the radar this season, garnering no attention from local and national press outlets alike. While the media clamors over tabloid-prone quarterback Johnny Manziel, Lancer quarterback Brock Andbrunner continues to find moderate success at the helm of an offense some spectators have called “nondescript” and “virtually nonexistent.”

On the heels of a dismal season last year, in which the team finished the season without a single win, Grace all but abandoned the program, leaving no funds for a program that never seemed to get itself off the ground.

“At the end of the year, it felt like nobody showed up; not the players, not the fans, nobody,” said Andbrunner of last year’s season, in which he claims to have thrown for 3,000 yards, but of which there is no record. “It really does something to you as a player, but also as a person. It’s like, ‘Does anyone even know I exist?”

However, tides seem to be changing for the program, and a season without losses could be just the boost the program has been looking for. With the Lancers heading to College University on Saturday, a team who has yet to score this season, the team couldn’t dream up a better way to start their conference play. And for a team that has come so far in just one season, maybe this isn’t just a fairy tale ending, but a fairy tale beginning, middle and end.
