Kilgore Wins Student Body President 2015-2016 Election

It could be said that Evan Kilgore intimidated any possible opposition in the race for the 2015-2016 Student Body President.

Point is: He won.

Evan Kilgore is a senior and is 21 years old. He is originally from Brookville, Ohio, and is majoring in communication and minoring in business. He is part of the SERVE team and is administrative coordinator of Student Senate. He has also run track as a sprinter for all three years he has attended Grace College.

Kilgore seems to know almost everyone. While I was interviewing him for this article, Kilgore stopped several times to greet the people around him.

You could see the aura of charisma echo off of him.

When I asked Kilgore why he wanted to run for student body president, I was not disappointed with the answer.

“I love Grace College and the community,” Kilgore said, “and I want others to love the college and community as well. The student body president is able to advocate for the well being of the community and be the voice of the students.”

As the voice of the people, he knows enough to get a wide array of input.

Although elated by the victory, Kilgore was also slightly disappointed with the lack of opposition during the campaign.

He explained, “I really love campaigns, so I think it would have been fun and competitive if someone else were running. I find it interesting that it unites the campus in a way.”

It takes a certain kind of person to think it would be fun if someone were running against him, and that person is Evan Kilgore.

The Ev4Prez hashtag was going strong after the first day of elections with tweets filled with encouraging messages to Kilgore. He hopes to achieve a lot of things next year, but didn’t have one thing in mind. Kilgore’s goal for next year is to make little changes that mean a lot to the students of Grace College. His campaign is realistic and reasonable with the time and opportunities he will have. He talked about his desire to revamp the Westy game room in a way that would make it more desirable for students to hang out. He wants the student senate to become a place for people to bring their suggestions and concerns to. He also wants to get the campus involved and make it a better place.

Kilgore’s message to the people of Grace College is this: If you see me around campus, make sure to catch a selfie, and I’ll tell you about my dreams for Grace College!
