Student Body President 2016-2017, Blaze Bowers

Sounding Board: Where did you grow up?

Blaze Bowers:  Sudanville, Ohio, but my family and I moved to Toronto a year ago.

S.B.: Your name is quite unique, is there a story behind it?

Blaze Bowers: That’s the most anticlimactic story to be honest. My mom went to a university in Ohio and she heard someone’s name was Blaze and she thought that was the coolest name ever.

S.B.: What leadership roles have you had in the past?

Blaze Bowers: I was student body president for my high school during my sophomore and senior years. My senior year I took on the role of high school representative for the board of education. All four years of high school I was the captain of the community outreach team. I’ve also been a board member for a nonprofit organization called 91Four which is a ministry for young girls in Uganda.

S.B.: What made you decide to run for Student Body President?

Blaze Bowers: I started off as senator for the freshman class here at Grace. I just love Grace College, and after watching Evan Kilgore lead, I wanted to continue leading by pursuing the position of Student Body President this next year.

S.B.: What are two things you have a passion to see either change or improve at Grace?

Blaze Bowers: I would love if Student Senate’s image was made more visible, making it a better understood entity here at Grace. I also want to encourage collaboration across campus: for the different factions like GSO, Serve and SAB to work together more.

S.B.: What are you looking for from the student body to make your term a success?

Blaze Bowers: Simply for them to have an open heart to follow God and a passion to change things for the glory of God.
