John Boehner – Speaker of the House, R-John Boehner, decided to resign from his position.  This decision was made known on September 25, after weeks of mounting pressure to defund Planned Parenthood.  One of Boehner’s aides has stated, “He is proud of what this majority has accomplished and his speakership, but for the good of the Republican conference and the institution, he will resign the Speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30.” (Source: www.theblaze.com)

Pope Francis – “The Golden Rule is a reminder of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development,” Pope Francis stated.

In the wake of the historic vote to freeze funds to Planned Parenthood and the worst refugee crisis to hit Europe since WWII, Pope Francis addressed congress with the mission to “Follow the Golden Rule.”  During his speech, the pope covered a variety of topics including: refugees in Europe, euthanasia, abortion, and helping the poor.  Even in the wake of a country that wants to separate church and state, having a religious figure speak on these controversial topics on Capitol Hill has encouraged America’s Catholics and Christians alike. Election 2016 – Planned Parenthood. Muslims. Donald Trump. These are the hot topics forming America’s political landscape. During the last GOP debate, Republican candidate Carly Fiorina challenged Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton to view undercover Planned Parenthood videos.  Republican candidate Ben Carson is in heat of his own after admitting that a Muslim for president would go against America’s constitutional values.  In the wake of those controversies, Trump has dug himself a hole. He has bashed Hillary Clinton, Fox News anchorwoman Megyn Kelly, and now has a decision as to whether or not he will defend the protestor at his rally stating that Muslims are a problem in America. Saudi Arabia – Over 760 pilgrims were injured in a stampede outside Mecca. This is the second crisis to hit Islam’s holy site, where millions of Muslims make their Hajj every year, after a crane collapsed and killed 11 pilgrims approximately two weeks prior. However, unlike the crane accident, the stampede may have been avoidable.

“The stampede that took place in Mina was perhaps because some pilgrims moved without following instructions by the relevant authorities. Investigations will be announced as has happened in other incidents,” Khalid al-Falih, Saudi Arabia’s health minister, stated. (Source: www.aljazeera.com)

Europe – In the wake of the worst refugee crisis since WWII, Hungary faces one of the biggest border challenges in its modern history. Due to refugees pouring into this nation, relations between Hungary and Croatia have become strained in recent weeks. Unable to defend the Hungarian/Croatian border without Croatia’s help, the crisis will only become worse. Hungary is just one of the many countries facing an influx of refugees. Other nations include Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Serbia, all of which are among the top 15 facing a refugee crisis. According to one count, approximately 8,000 refugees cross into Europe every day. (Source: www.msn.com via BBC News)
