Westy committee to host a gaming competition

Westy Grille closed soon after Subconnection opened on campus, swapping cheeseburgers for sub sandwiches and salads.

After being empty for a year and a half and out of the control of Alpha Dining, the Westy Basement Committee is trying to put the Grille to good use.

From 7-10 p.m. on Feb. 24, the Westy Basement Committee will host a gaming competition.

From 7-8 p.m., the event will be open for any regular games played for fun. The gaming competition begins at 8 p.m.

For a small fee, students can enter the competition and win prizes as they battle their way through the brackets to the top.

Food and drinks will be available during the event. A portion of the money will be used for a prize and to buy posters to enhance the Grille’s atmosphere. Any leftover money will go toward future projects for the Grille area.

The fee for this event has yet to be determined, but the event page on Facebook will announce the cost in a few days.

The Westy Basement Committee started in the fall of 2011 after RD Janelle Ditmer approached Westy senate representative Katie Graham about making “better usage of the space.”

The committee is looking for people to allow them to use their game consoles for the event.

Any game console is welcome and will be returned after the event. If you are willing to allow the committee to use your console, please contact Graham or Kay DeVries or post a comment on the event page on Facebook.
