Student Senate Sweetens the Weekend for Freshmen-Sophomores

by Abby Phinney

A large assortment of ice cream flavors and toppings sweetened the evening for freshmen and sophomores.

Members of Student Senate and the Student Activities Board (SAB) gathered on Friday, Nov. 10, to string lights in the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital concourse. They prepped for the 2017 Freshmen-Sophomore Dessert in style, scooping ice cream and mixing mocktails in formal attire.

First and second-year students attended. The semi-formal social event offered karaoke, an ice cream bar and a mocktail hour. “The students can get to know each other here,” said Mitch Randall, senate representative for the class of 2015. “After tonight, we hope everyone will have friends in the grades above or below them.”

Randall and Timothy Rata ran the mocktail bar. “This is a classier event. It’s semi-formal, but there’s ice cream,” said Rata. “It’s dope.”

Freshmen arrived at 7 p.m. and mingled with their peers. They chose chocolate, vanilla or Neapolitan ice cream and an array of toppings. Aaliyah Millikin, a freshman, attended the evening with her friends. “We’re looking forward to karaoke, but we’re enjoying everything,” Millikin said.
