Lancers Go 2-0 at Tip Off Classic

by Justin Perry

Grace Handles the Eagles

It was the home opener for the Grace College Lancers as they took on the Judson University Eagles in the first night of the Lancer Tip Off Classic. Grace had a comfortable lead at halftime, 40-33. The Eagles were not able to get past the Lancers though as Grace won easily, 72-59.

The game against the Eagles was one where no one player got ahead in terms of scoring for the Lancers. Leading the way for Grace was Logan Godfrey with 14 points. Godfrey also deemed it fit to throw down the hammer for a slam dunk on more than one occasion. And Lancer fans loved it. Jaret Sons was able to get 13 points on the board for the Lancers.

The Lancers shot 43% in shots and a poor 25% in free throw shooting. There was a lot to improve on for Grace, but then again we are only just a couple games into the season. The team still has some time to work out all the kinks.

Lancers Take on Governer’s State

Day two for the Lancer Tip Off Classic proved to be a great day for Grace College. The Lancers took on Governors State and came away with the win, 92-83. The Lancers’ bench proved to be elite in this game as Grace had 48 of their points come off the bench. Lancer fans should expect Grace’s bench to be electric this year.

Freshman Matt Jennings put up some big numbers. He had 23 points and a performance that proved to be crucial in the Lancers’ second win of the season. Erik Bowen helped the Lancers’ cause with 20 points of his own.

At the end of the game, Eric Bowen and Jaret Sons received All-Classic recognition. The two wins from the Tip Off Classic were big wins for the Lancers. They have a long, but exciting road ahead of them.
