Experiencing the NIHHC Health Fair—It’s Not Just for the Healthy
by Hannah DeGaetano
This past Saturday, people from all over Kosciusko came to participate in the Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition (NIHHC) Health fair. The event was held in the Gordon Recreation Center’s Aerobic room and featured eight different health screenings: vision, blood pressure, body mass
index, weight, waist circumference, blood sugar, hemoglobin, and cholesterol. After completing all stations, patrons had their results read and explained by the volunteers. Participants also received information about health care providers in Kosciusko. It was NIHHC’s goal to help patrons become aware of their health by providing this free health fair.
In addition to the NIHHC workers, students from Grace’s Advanced Spanish
Communication and Civilization class volunteered at the event. This gave them the opportunity to practice their Spanish in a real-world setting. The students pushed past the language barrier to communicate with the participants.
