College Hacks: How to Survive On-Campus Food

As the days of your time on campus drag on and on and on, and classes and seasons change, there is one thing that stays the same: the dining options. When coming back from a long summer or winter break, the food from Alpha, the Grill, and Sub Connections can be comforting; however, we all know too well how old the same food can get. So, next time you are getting the blues about having to eat on-campus food and the Ramen sitting on the desk in your dorm room doesn’t sound as good as it once did, try these delicious tips!
Mix Up Your Toppings! Next time you reach for the same old fries at Alpha with the same old ketchup to dip it in, think about this instead. Take your plate of boring fries over to the salad bar and spice up your dinner with cheese and bacon. After that just give your plate a quick zap and you got yourself a plate of bacon cheese fries!
Iced Coffee from Alpha! When Flex is low, or you just don’t feel like making the extra trip to Philathea for a nice coffee, don’t worry, make your own at Alpha! Get a glass and fill it with ice, then add equal parts chocolate milk and coffee, then top it off with just a smidge of creamer and stir gently. Then sip and regain some of your sanity!
Substitute Your Ramen! For those days when you really don’t feel like leaving the comfort of your own room, there are a few dorm room, mini-fridge must-haves. Ramen and cereal can only get you so far. Next time you go to the store pick up some cheap tortilla shells, off-brand cream cheese, a lunch meat of your choice, and garlic powder. Just spread some cream cheese on your shell, sprinkle with garlic powder, and add a few pieces of lunch meat. Roll it up and you’ve got yourself a tasteful wrap!
