Coffee with Katip
by Ethan Higa
Dr. Bill Katip continues to answer our questions, reminding us about what it means to be a Grace College student.
What are the values of Grace College? Why?
As an institution, we genuinely strive to apply biblical values in strengthening character, sharpening competence, and preparing for service. To accomplish these goals, we live by certain values. Let me briefly share three of these values with you.
When I think about the values of Grace College, the first thing that comes to my mind is Christ’s pre-eminence in all we do. I don’t want us to be a college that just offers some “religious trappings” as one of the options. It’s my prayer that Christ and His Word will be the center of our academics, athletics, social and all other activities that take place on this campus. You (along with your parents and the government) are paying a lot of money to be here, and your Grace experience needs to be different!
A second value that I trust permeates our campus is biblical love and acceptance of one another. It’s tough to be a young adult in your late teens and early 20s, especially given the pressure to be accepted and fit in. I pray that your experience here at Grace will be different from that at most schools and that you will make really good friends and form relationships that will last a lifetime!
Finally, I pray that this third value will be evident at Grace College: that we will operate with biblical integrity in our actions and relationships. Too much of the world today operates on the basis of what seems “best for the moment.” For many, truth is relative. But as believers and as the Grace family, it’s my desire that we are different. Let’s let our word be trustworthy and let’s “speak the truth in love” to our roommates, professors, and anyone with whom we have contact.
