Back in the Swing of Things

By Alisha Gomez

If you have a passion for dancing or just want to give it a try, check out the Swing Dance Club. The person who started the club, Daniel Moore, says that his interest in swing dancing originated back home in Michigan. Moore and his brothers attended open dance nights, and he did not want to leave dance behind when he came to Grace. He had the help of starting the club by his brother who is a swing dance instructor at his college, and Charles, a former local swing dance instructor who is a graduate of Grace. Daniel has high hopes for the club.

“In the future, I would love for the participants in the club to get to know each other better through the event, and for me to continue to see more and more students attend.” There are usually twenty to thirty people at the meetings each week and even Grace staff and faculty are welcome. Daniel and Charles teach basic steps and swings, allowing attendees to enjoy dancing as they glorify God. The meetings are three hours long, but people can come and go as they please. Dance is taught in a very relaxed and fun setting.

Daniel says, “The biggest reason friends and classmates give for not coming is that they do not think they can dance. If you come to swing, we will do our best to make sure you enjoy yourself. The club is informal and it is about having fun and glorifying God while learning how to dance.” The meetings are held every Friday at 7 p.m. in Mount Memorial 202, and Daniel would love to see new people. “We would love to have you join us! It is hard to explain how fun it really is!”
